Put Down that Drink Soldier!

So here I am at a weird gig at the infamous West Point Military Academy. Every so often a black military helicopter would fly overhead. Cadets constantly ran around campus in shorts and t-shirts in the frigid chill of an upstate NY winter blast. It had a strange vibe and was straight out of a movie. Speaking of which, after working out at the gym, I dressed for dinner and headed down to the hotel restaurant. It was nearly closing but they seated me anyway. There was no one else there and it was a large, old, and upscale dining room. Light music played. It was mostly Michael Bolton pap, but there was some old jazz standards as well. The waiter, clad in a tuxedo assisted me. I ordered the filet mignon with blue cheese sauce and a couple glasses of Chilean syrah. I talked to the waiter awhile and asked him if he had seen the movie, The Shining, because I felt like was in it. You know, the scene where Jack goes into the ballroom and has a conversation with the bartender.

Afterwards I went into the cocktail lounge. A table of cadets were the sole occupants of the large room enjoying a basketball game. I ordered a gin and tonic and sat in the regal leather high-backed chairs. It looked and smelled of old money and history but lacked the cigars and snobbery.
